Have a burning question that's not on the list? PM staff or ask away below!
Q: Am I only allowed to roleplay as university faculty and students, or is it possible to play parents and families and other city-dwellers as well?
A: So many sites restrict themselves to just that, but we don't want to hinder the city of Sofia's potential. Why limit our plots when they can be expanded? So yes, it's possible to play pretty much any of-age citizen of Sofia you can imagine as long as their application is approved by staff.
Q: What is considered an of-age character?
A: University students must be a minimum of 18 years old and are a student until they graduate, when they become a normal civilian; the amount of university years varies depending on degree. For civilians, they must be at least 11 years old and there is no upper limit from there. Offspring are considered NPC's until they reach the minimum civilian age.
Q: Are their different rules for roleplaying as a civilian vs. roleplaying as a university student?
A: See Character Rules here
Q: Is the city primarily shifter or human?
A: The city of Sofia is primarily shifter, but it is considered a safe zone for humans because they are being stripped of their rights in many other countries.
Q: Are there regulations or shifter-specific jobs?
A: There are no jobs that only shifters are allowed to take, but some shifters might excel at certain jobs more than humans and therefore are hired over them. Right now, there are human-specific jobs, though. Since their population is much smaller, being unable to shift has become a high priority in some government offices.
Q: Are humans against shifters being in power?
A: There are some humans that don't like shifters being in power. That doesn't mean everyone is though. Sofia is the main hub of humans and shifters living together.
Q: What is the size of the hover image in the profile settings? And the avatar?
A: The hover image is 200x400, while the avatar is 150x150.
Q: Can we make animal turned shifter outright? Would they be lab experiments and be monitored at all times? Or could there potentially be one that is "off the record"
A: You can make an animal turned shifter outright. As they would be an animal basically being turned human, scientists would monitor and help the new shifter adjust to the human world for a couple of months before they are set free. If there is an "off the record" animal turned shifter, the person who turned the animal in the shifter would be responsible for their charge for a few months. Though normally, these animals would be very young when they go through this. Any adult animal attempting to go through the change, it would harm them.
Q: Is it ok that I don't follow Spanish culture or that I have characters who aren't Spanish?
A: Sofia has a lot of inspiration from many other countries. It's not really a traditional Spanish town considering that its kind of the last safe haven for humans and a beacon for shifters, which means lots of immigration and lots of cultural blending. This means you don't really have to know about all the specific cultures included in the RP to get by. The founding families are Korean, Canadian, Scottish, Irish, and French. They chose Spain for neutral ground. Some Spanish culture will show through, such as the Spanish names of places and the name of the city. It's basically a giant melting pot.
Q: So is the name Sofia banned?
A: Character-wise, no. business-wise, yes.
Q: Would shifters age like people or animals?
A: People.
Q: So if I find a face claim I like for my character, but it lacks a certain detail (like different eye color than in photo or hair color), could I potentially still use it?
A: Yes. Though if you were to change the color of the hair or eyes, I would suggest dye and contacts if you went that way. Other than that, I suggest editing the eye/hair color.
Q: so if I find a picture that could work for my character, but isn't my character and is likely to be just a randomly drawn person, could I use that for like a tracker image or something? Or is it just limited to only FC images?
A: Yes. It's not limited to only FC images.
Q: If a wolf-shifter dyes their hair bright pink would their fur be bright pink?
A: Yes. Though dye in the hair doesn't really work with snake/reptiles/amphibians, because their scales are basically skin. If you dyed your skin with sayyy, neon orange dye for whatever reason, that would definitely affect the reptiles. It would affect animal forms as well and give the roots of their orange that color so it would be almost like a shadowy or highlight affect. Same thing with feathers.
Q: Are they required to have a tattoo of their shifter form still?
A: In some countries, yes. Spain is one of those few countries who still has that law in affect.
Q: Can it be anywhere? Like the bottom of their foot.
A: It has to be somewhere visible, like their shoulder, neck, or face.
Q: Okay so what are the limits an person hair colors because people can dye their hair and stuff?
A: No limits.
Q: What is the shifter changing process like?
A: WIP
Q: Where exactly do the personality, history and special traits go? Also special traits like shift form and enhancements in human form?
A: As for the application, personality is outlined on the first page. Under the second tab, the first section should be history, and the second should be shifter details.
Q: Dolphins, whales, fish... Are these allowed shifts? Is there anything not allowed?
A: Anything goes for shifts, but you cannot be mythological creatures. Any dinosaur or prehistoric animals are extremely restricted and can only be won through contests or bought.
Q: What happens to clothing when they shift?
A: Clothing kind of morphs with the shifter. TClothing, at this point, has been specifically developed with shifters in mind.
Q: Also what classes are offered at this university, what can you become by going there?
A: Classes are in progress. At the moment, assume that all the basics are being taught.
Q: How do I get the character app code?
A: You got to this post and click "quote" and copy ALLLLL the code in the post.
Q: What do I label the shifter type? is it just the name of the animal or?
A: Type A/B/C.
Q: How are shifters born exactly, like as animals or as humans or?
A: When it comes to Type A and C, human. When it comes to Type B, either animal or human.
Q: Can a shifter be experimented on to start shifting into something else? Losing that previous shift forever?
A: No. Being experimented on like that will cause the shifts to conflict with each other, either causing the shifter to lose the ability to shift for forever, or to die
Q: Due to its climate, Sofia probably never sees snow right?
A: Yes. The coldest it will ever get is probably 50 degrees F.
Q: Humans and Shifters can interbreed right? And when that happens they can either have a human child or a shifter child I assume?
A: Right when it comes to Humans and Shifters interbreeding, it all depends on genetics. Did the human ever have a shifter in their DNA line? That would increase the chance of having a shifter child. Usually when a human and shifter joins together, the base chance is 50/50 either way.
Q: Also, can you say that your character is sharing an apartment with a friend, but not have to adopt that friend out? Just have them as a minor background character?
A: Yes.
Q: So is there not a place to put appearance or whether someone likes boys or girls? I was looking at the other apps for reference and I didn't see one?
A: In one of them, you should just be able to put anotherand label it as Fun Facts. Appearance can be listed under special traits or you can slam it in above the personality. It's up to you.
Q: How do you reserve FCs?
A: just copy and paste 'fc name , series until DATE'
Q: is there a limit on the date?
A: Two weeks. After that two weeks, you must wait a week before attempting to reserve it again
Q: Can I reserve more than one??
A: Max is 3 at one time.
Q: Can the animal form of a shifter look different color-wise compared to the human form? (like without any dyes or anything) Like what would the hair color of a parrot-shifter be, or a wolf shifter? would they just have unnatural-natural hair colors? Or would they both have different hair colors?
A: Normally when it comes to shifters born human, their animal shift would adopt their natural coloring. When it comes to animals becoming shifters, their human coloring would reflect their animal coloring. It boils down to if they were born as human or animal for that.
Q: So will my character have to apply someplace before they can officially have a job? Can characters work in places not mentioned on the boards? What about volunteering?
A: They would still have to apply, but it would be just an application telling everyone they applied. Also yes, they can work in places not mentioned in the boards, considering one is going to be a detective. Tackle shop and animal shelter are fine
Q: Can my character live in an apartment/pay rent somewhere?
A: Yes, though they are called flats.
Q: Do we have a list of specifics jobs in the establishments that we can apply for? I mean besides the slots, like anything with titles?
A: As of now, we do. If you still want a specific job, apply for it. Those listed in establishments are limited though.
Q: Would the farmer's market sort of place be in the Plaza?
A: It is right outside of the city~
Q: What season is it right now?[/b]
A: Rather than being Winter/Fall/Spring/Summer, there are the wet and dry seasons. Currently, it is the dry season.
Q: What are these ghosts and boars that are mentioned in the help channel on the Discord?
A: It's one of the little inside jokes of AN. The site ghosts are went the staff and admins are working on things. Steve is when we work on the site structure, Phil is when we make information threads, ect. The Boars are the ones where we're asked to do something from the members. They're named Barbara and Bob respectively LOL
Q: Do you have a discord? What about a cbox?
A: Yep! It is linked in the side-boards. The cbox is at the bottom of the site and should be used as a Tagbox, but it is also there for us to tell guests we're still alive and kicking when it looks like we're not. At the moment, we're primarily all active in the discord. Just because we don't talk for a few days in a row doesn't mean we're not there.
Q: Can I make my own tracker, I don't have to pay do I?
A: Nope! Same thing goes for the plotter~
Q: So what would you like to be in "what is that shift" specifically, besides "it is this animal?" Is this section more specifically about your specific characteristics not the type of shift as a whole?
A: Just a description of the shift. Is there something specific on it? Remember that in your shift form there needs to be something that distinctively tells you it's not just an animal and it's some person. That thing would identify who the shift is. For the second question, basically? But if your shift is a specific subspecies of a general one, make sure you include that
Q: What happens when a B-shift or A-shift gets stuck exactly? Is it like how the C-shifts are, with some animal parts but only for a short time, or different?
A: When a B-shift gets stuck, it's basically the opposite of how an A-shift gets stuck. C-shifts are the ones that get stuck permanently. Normally getting stuck in their animal or opposing shift is uncomfortable when it's temporary. The longer you're stuck in your opposing shift, the more likely it is for the person to become permanently stuck that way. After a week of being stuck, it is extremely unlikely that the person would be able to transform into their OG or human form again. But it is exactly like the C-shift.
Q: Is there a way for someone to become a B-shift illegally?
A: Yes. Normally B-shifters are done in hospitals/scientific labs, but gotta admit there would be some corruption there. If birth parents are doctors or scientists, it would be laughably easy to get their hands on the serum for it. However it's illegal in a lot of countries for parents or not certified people to insert the B-shift gene, simply because it is a very delicate process and it would be unsafe for the baby or animal. There are a lot of chances that the animal or baby would die in that sort of case so he would be a bit of a miracle baby.
Q: With animals that change fur colors with the seasons, like Arctic foxes and stoats, could a person's hair change as their shifts do?
A: Yes.
Q: What if your character isn't from something? What should I do about the faceclaim thing?
A: Make sure you have the permission from the artist, but put unknown.
Q: Is the currency in Euros?
A: Since Sofia is in Spain, yes.
Q: So like... I wanna know more about b shifters and what they're like if they were originally animals. How are they expected to act in roleplay? Are they usually experimented on when they are babies so they learn to be human as they mature? Because I feel if this happened as an adult you would just have a snarling human in the corner peeing on the wall you know? XD just trying to get an idea
A: Idk why I even thought of animals? But I did it with the intentention of introducing the shift gene to a human toddler when they were young. Obviously when animals are introduced to it, they would be feral for a few months before the DNA kicks in and gradually they stop being feral. But I wouldn't blame them if sometimes they had episodes as adults. Though when they reach a certain age as an animal, sayyy 1 and a half years, their age as an animal slows and at 2 years they will age as a human ages.
Q: So how does time work in-rp? (year-by-year sorta, like rl time orrrr) Like I know the seasons are very mild, but we still technically have them right? I'm not sure if college students get breaks in the summer or its different because its in Europe.
A: Every 6 mo irl is 1 year in RP. Every 6 mo, students go up a year.
Q: If your characters have a kid, and they have to be 11 years to be rped, how long do you think you'd have to wait irl before you could put them up for adoption?
A: 2 years. For every IC year that passes, kids age three years. So by the time that the two years are up, they would be 12
Q: How much would the kid be rped by the parents? like mentioned doing something in a post until they can be adopted.
A: Kids are considered NPCs until they are posted for adoption
Q: Do Sofia university students have a summer break or any holidays/scheduled breaks?
A: It will have four weeks in between semesters, and two months in summers. OOCly, the first half of the first month and the entirety of the sixth month they have off.
Q: Other people can put up adoptions right? Like I could put up a sibling for one of my chars if I wanted to? And if they can, then if you adopt their adopt, does that count as one of the three free slots?
A: Yes, you can put up adoptions. They would count as one of your three free slots and after that you have to buy a character slot.
Q: So when a FC's two weeks-being-claimed is up, can we reserve them again immediately?
A: Yes, you have a week to do it before it's up for grabs
Q: Can we reuse first names and last names? if characters aren't related?
A: You can use the same name as another character as long as they have a different last name. You can use the same last name as another character, but it has to be a different first name. I do not recommend the last one, because people might get confused when you say they're not a member of such and such's family. Especially because we have huge canon families.
Q: So regarding shifters and what they eat - if they ate something that would be poison to them in animal form, but eat it in human form, would it affect them in any way?
A: I don't imagine it'll affect them much in human form, but be advised not to shift until it's completely out of the system xD
Q: Depending on your shift, would a shift be more vulnerable to certain illnesses. Like a cat shift would be in risk of catching distemper, and a bat or dog rabies?
A: Yes.
Q: When it comes to a character's shift changing colors with the seasons, is it acceptable for the human form to adopt those characteristics?
A: Anything that happens for the animal naturally can happen for the character
